If it does not improve your participation in the prayer of the Church, you will have only yourself to blame. Lord, you are the source of unfailing light. Every priest, deacon, monastic and layperson should try this out. Benedict calls the Divine Office simply The Work of God - the Opus Dei - and he insists that nothing whatever in the monastery is to be preferred to it. Now I also have the Divine Office with me as well. Sure, an app would be cool, but this is already such a great help. In the Liturgy of the Hours, the Church fulfills Jesus' command to 'pray always' (Luke 18:1 see also 1 Thessalonians 5:17). These are truly the church’s rich gifts, other than the eucharist, that God has given to us. Evening Prayer (also called Vespers) is part of the Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Divine Office. The spirituality of these prayers which, when said with the heart, leaves nothing more to be said to God, as they allow a complete emptying of oneself in an effort to express love to God. Come then, our Advocate, turn towards us. Hear as we sigh, with groaning and weeping. ![]() Hear us cry out to you, children of Eve in our exile. There is no question in my mind that unless and until priests pray more than just the Daily Liturgy, God will not abundantly bless the works of his hands in his priestly ministry. Hail to you, O Queen, mother of loving kindness, our life, our happiness, our hope. I think this a great service that will inspire priests to pray more than just having the daily Divine Liturgy.
